2017 Dos Pueblos Invitational Cross Country Race
Dos Pueblos Invitational is the premier high school cross country event in Santa Barbara. Each year the race hosts 1000 participants from teams across California, and oftentimes teams from beyond state lines come to the event to experience the race and all that our beautiful coastline has to offer. The race is a staple for local distance runners, and plenty of top-notch talent will be present again this year.
The first running of DPI took place in 1967, and was directed by local coaching legend Gordon McClenathan, or "Coach Mac". The race was originally run on the Dos Pueblos High School campus in Goleta, but has since changed locations. Our invitational features four grade-level races for each gender, and we consistently host over a thousand participants from across California and beyond. Local participants include teams from Dos Pueblos HS, San Marcos HS, Laguna Blanca HS, Ventura HS, and Foothill Technology HS.
This year the race will take place at Shoreline Park in Santa Barbara on September 29, 2017.
Hosting the annual Dos Pueblos Invitational is the major fundraiser done each season for Dos Pueblos High School Cross Country.

The funds raised from this event go towards the following:
- Fees for city applications and permits to host the event
- Fees associated with parking and portable restrooms/garbage containers for the event
- Race bibs for the event - 10 cents each adds up quickly for an event this size!
- Meet entry fees - It costs our program well over $1000 to enter cross country races throughout a season.
- Travel costs
- Coaching stipends - The district does not supply enough stipends to pay each coach.
- Supporting student-athletes who may not be able to afford team gear
How can I be involved?
We're glad you asked! Your business, organization, or family can support us financially by sponsoring our event. This sponsorship helps us out tremendously, and we will in turn put whichever logo you desire on our website or on the back of our commemorative race t-shirts that will be sold at the event. We sell a lot of these shirts both to local teams and to teams across California. Many teams travel to this event from across the state to have the opportunity to race along our beautiful coastline, and their athletes tend to go home with a t-shirt to remember the event.
What are my options?
- Placing your logo on the t-shirts we will sell at the Dos Pueblos Invitational high school cross country meet at Santa Barbara’s beautiful Shoreline Park on Friday, September 29. There will be up to 1000 high school runners competing in grade level races. Teams will come from Santa Barbara and the nearby area, such as Lompoc, Santa Maria, Ventura, as well as teams coming from Los Angeles area and farther to enjoy racing in a beautiful setting.
- Having your logo displayed on a banner at Dos Pueblos stadium where it will be seen year round by spectators at football, soccer, lacrosse games, and track and field meets.
If you like the first option (logo on DPI shirts), please send a check for $300 (or more) payable to:
Dos Pueblos High School
Attn.: Cross Country
7266 Alameda Avenue
Goleta, CA 93117
And send your logo via email to Rod Farvard: rfarvard@hotmail.com
Logos must be received by September 15 so they can be included in the designs for the shirts.
If you like the second option (banner at Dos Pueblos stadium), please see the attached form, which can also be found at www.dphsa.org/forms
